A new look above the Kitchen cabinets

I always find it so difficult to decorate the top of my kitchen cabinets. After the Christmas garland came down  it stayed bare up until a few days ago when I came up with this.

I had everything on hand, just went and shopped my storage room for the most of it!
I love the layered look, so I added two of my wicker chargers from Nell Hills as a backdrop.
I left the other cabinets on the other walls bare, I like just having the center cabinets decorated(it's easier to keep clean;).
I'm liking the change!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a peek!

You did a great job. It looks fresh, Martina! I love the crown moulding! xo

Very pretty and simple, Martina! I think kitchen cabinet tops and mantels are a problem to figure because we tend to overthink them. {I'm sure I do anyway!}. I'm working on redoing one section of our cabinet tops, too. I love the touch of greenery you added.

Carolyn@Sweet Chaos Home said...

That is a tricky spot to decorate, and you did a great job with it! Like all my decorating, I'm a little schizo. Sometimes I like vignettes on top of my cabinets, and other times I appreciate them being clean and clear. Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds by just decorating the center cabs. Nice job :)

I struggle with that space too. I'm guilty of putting something up there and leaving it for too long...I get covered in a layer of dust when taking them back down! Yikes! Yours looks fresh, clean and pretty.

Looks great Martina! I love your mix of decor above there! In my last house I used to decorate above my cabs but haven't here yet and I miss it. I only have my shelves above the desk and fridge done. Oh and the cooking mantle or whatever it's called, lol!

The top of your cabinets look really pretty now. You have some beautiful detailing in your crown moulding up there. I was glad to fill in the tops of my cupboards, it's so hard to style them and mine tended to get dirty so quickly. Yours looks wonderful, though.

Love the Roosters!! But you know that right!!

Love what you have done; I have almost the same setup in my kitchen as yours - but I have to ask - how do you keep things clean up there? Seems like it always catches so much gunk from the kitchen - and mine are lower, so I would have to set anything for decorating up on a couple of books or something even to be seen. Was almost thinking of putting some fake cabinets up there so I wouldn't have to keep cleaning up the gunk every six months or so. Do you find you have to do that, too? I love your ideas and decorating! You are very inspiring!

Marty@A Stroll Thru Life said...

Love it, the basket chargers are a great backdrop and add so much texture. Gorgeous. Hugs, marty

Hi Martina!!!

I love what you did!! I did this to the top of my cabinets and have had positive comments.

I find it looked too bare and grouping items I love together filled the spot.

Your cabinets look great. We remodeled the kitchen in our former home and we had cabinets that did not reach the ceiling. I loved being able to decorate. I didn't think about missing my old cabinets until I saw yours.
