Today I am sharing one of my favorite projects from 2011, the transformation of our kitchen island! We did this project back in March and I love it just as much now as I did when it first got done.
The BLAH before picture!
Added beadboard and decorative molding.
We had the door and drawer fronts painted by a professional and I painted the rest.
This island makeover gave our kitchen a whole new look. I love it! Thank you for stopping by and always leaving such sweet comments! I appreciate them so much!!

Morning, Martina! Oh, I love it too! What a difference a little paint makes! Your kitchen is so beautiful!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Love your island.....It looks great!
That was a great transformation, Martina! The black looks so good with your granite counter, too. I can see why you still love it. It must make you happy when you walk into your kitchen.
It really is just gorgeous! Love the contrast. :)
What a spectacular tranformation! It's beautiful and looks like a piece of furniture rather than an standard kitchen island.
I really do love that transformation! It reminds me of my sisters black island in her kitchen. This gives your kitchen a more decorative quality (doesn't look so builder basic). Love the distressing on it too.
Martina, your island looks wonderful. It does give your lovely kitchen a real 'punch.' I love it.
Happy New Year!

That is a great transformation and reminds me of my upcoming project that I will be tackling. I love those bar stools. Where are they from?

I just love it Martina! I remember loving it the first time I saw it and it still makes me want to run right out and grab a paint brush to do my island. :-) Happy New Year!

That's a wonderful transformation, Martina! Isn't it amazing how such a small change can make such an impact? Looks great!

Beautiful transformation!!!
Wow! I can't get over what a difference the change to black makes. It really creates a richer, more interesting room. The attention to details (beadboard and molding) really makes it look a grand piece of furniture. Great job!
Absolutely amazing transformation.
Lil paint, make a huge difference in every way. I love your kitchen.
Happy TTT & have a great & Peaceful NY to come.

I love your black island and it does make a huge difference. Your entire kitchen is very pretty.
This is one of my favs too Martina. I wish my hubs would let me paint our island, but it is a NO GO from the word GO LOL!
Beautiful, Martina! The new color adds the right amount of pop to your pretty kitchen!! I love it! Love your granite counters, too!
XO,

That is a great makeover Martina. The black grounds the space, and looks spectacular.
Your kitchen is gorgeous, Martina. I really like it....Christine
Love your kitchen, Martina. The black island is beautiful and adds so much to the kichen. BTW I have a black island in my kitchen with creamy glazed cabinets and love it, too! Happy New Year! Linda
Hi Martina,
What a great island makeover...
The black is so sharp in your white kitchen, the painting & texture is fabulous!!
All the Best,
Christine
Hi Martina, Your kitchen is beautiful and even more so with the transformation of the island. Thank you for joining my party this week and I
hope you have a wonderful 2012!
xoxo,
Sherry
It adds so much more POW to your kitchen you know? Really spices it up and gives it such a custom look. But then, I'm a bit partial to white kitchens with black islands. ;-)
It sure is fun looking back Martina. Your dining room is a huge change and everything came together so nicely!
Your island is gorgeous!!! What a beautiful job! I love the distressed black finish. :-)
This was a terrific project, Martina!
What a pleasure it has been getting to know you this year!
Thank you for being a friend to me and 2805 and for sharing at Potpourri Friday. I wish you a healthy, prosperous and sparkling New Year!
So funny that I stumbled upon this post today Martina, because I was just saying yesterday how I'd love to paint my island black. I have all white like you do. My question is, what was the material that you painted over? Mine aren't wood - they are like a vinyl. Not sure if I can paint over it. Whatdya think???
I'm so loving this project, because I've been wanting to paint my kitchen island for a couple of years and keep "chickening" out. Your island looks fabulous!
Thanks for the inspiration.
New to your blog today - love the black island -what paint and paint technique did you use?
