Changes in the Master Bedroom...just a peek

 Hi there friends...
 I've been working on giving our master bedroom a new look.
The biggest change is the new wall color...I went much lighter! I painted the room White Down by Ben. Moore. It's the same color I used a few months ago in our master bath.
~~~
Along with painting the walls I bit the bullet and painted my husbands highboy!
I know a lot of you might think I'm crazy for doing this but I was tired of all the dark wood in here. My husband thought I was crazy when I first mentioned it to him being we paid a lot for this set but as you can see I was able to persuade him lol!
My dresser and a smaller chest still have the dark stain...I like the contrast of dark wood with painted pieces in a room.
 I used my two favorite Annie Sloan colors...Chateau Grey And Versailles.
Remember the Before...
 I started by painting the piece in Versailles.
 Then I added a coat of Chateau Grey...I wanted a layered look when I sanded it.
I finished it off with both the clear and dark waxes.
I love how paint makes all the detail work pop!
Remember the oil painting I had in my living room leaning against the chippy shutters...I thought it would be perfect in here now...still loving it unframed.
 The painting wasn't enough on the wall so I added a roe antler above it.
I'm so happy with the changes being made in here!
  1. The green of the piece of furniture picks up the green of the painting. Very pretty! And I still love that painting too.
  2. Martina, you did an amazing job on the painting of the high boy! Something I've dreamed of doing with our bedroom furniture, but have never gotten up the nerve. It looks fantastic!
  4. This is just beautiful, Martina! You know your stuff! I have no idea how to mix colors and I have only used the clear AS wax and it didn't seem to do anything to a white table I painted. Did your highboy have a really plastic looking varnish on the drawers? That's how my husband's armoire is and I have always thought it would be a bear to paint. Did you use and electric sander or just sandpaper?
    Well, I love the colors, you did a fantastic job. The painting looks perfect next to it!
  8. I think it looks very pretty. I wouldn't do it because my hubby would have a heart attack on the spot...hmmmm....nah---I don't want to have to take care of him. lol (just kidding for all you peeps that feel sorry for my hubby).....
    Anyway- I think it is perfect...and a nice contrast to all the dark wood...and LOOK how the detail shows up now! It's great, Martina. xo Diana
  13. Martina, you did an awesome job on the high boy. My husband would never consent to painting our cherry furniture. But in reality I would not either because I like the richness of the dark wood.
    But I do love your highboy and the changes you have made. It is gorgeous!
  16. Martina,
    It is beautiful. You sound just like me. We have a very expensive solid mahogany bedroom suit. We bought it my first year teaching back in 1993. Like you, I am tired of all the dark furniture. Think I'll show him what you did. I haven't dared bring up the thought of painting it, but just may now! ~Christy
  18. I really love it, Martina! I was eyeing a highboy at Salvation Army the other day to use for storage in my master bathroom, but passed it up because I couldn't imagine it painted. You've inspired me and now I wish that I had bought it. Ratz! Looking forward to seeing more of the changes in your master.
