Plates or no Plates, that is the question??

This wall in my dining room with the mirror has always bugged me. Some days I like it just the way it is and then other days I feel it needs a little something. I love the look of plates around it and I have been inspired by so many of you! I was thinking of adding some red transferware plates around it, in different sizes. So I need your HELP in making this decision!! Do you think it might be to much or just the right thing to finish it off.

Here's a picture of what I would like to use.

So what do you think, plates or no plates?? I appreciate all your help!  Martina

Here's a little peek at what I've been working on, come back tonight for the reveal!

  2. Hi Martina! Oh, my vote is plates! I have a mirror in my dining room and I hung plates all over it. It's been referred to as my 'wall of china'! :)

  4. Yes please on the plates. I love those plates. Did you see my last post? The home I featured has red and white plates on a plate rack. The plates aren't the same, but similar.

  9. Here's a suggestion, Martina. I did this in my last house. Cut out some pieces of paper the size of the plates and tape them around the mirror. It will give you an idea of what they'll look like, before you put holes in the wall. I'm sure it will be lovely :)

  12. I'm the wrong gal to ask because I just added plates not too long ago around my dining room mirror too! LOL! I think you even mentioned something about them in a comment recently. :-) I think they would look gorgeous in there and if it seemed like too much red you could always break it up with some off-white plates too. I think it would really fill in that wall nicely and be a dramatic focal point!

  19. I think that they can be very dramatic and pretty depending on how you hang them.

  20. Oh yah! Your walls are angled....perhaps if you hung the plates around the mirror with a similar angle...or maybe an arch to mirror the curves in your chandelier. I think the mirror wall does need something..and red transferware plates would be fab there!

  21. I think what bugs you about the mirror is that it seems rather small on that large wall. Putting the plates around the mirror would take away a lot of the "dead" space of the wall and would give the illusion of that being the focal wall. If it were me, I'd try the plates. If you don't like them, it won't take that much time to spackle a few small nail holes on the wall.
