With the summer coming to an end and all our other perennials starting to look pretty sad at least we have these beauties still blooming. These are my husbands favorites. After many trips to Florida and seeing these beauties all over he was determined to try and grow them here in the northeast. We're zone 6 and crepe myrtles are recommended for zones 7 thru 9.
Our's grow as a shrub not a tree but we'll take that! Four years later and they're still growing strong!
These three on the pool deck are Dynamite crepe myrtles
Here's another grouping on our hill. The white is Natchez the light pink is Choctaw and the pink in the back is Miami.
This last one with these beautiful hot pink blooms is called Pink Velour
This is one garden that still looks good. I already started cutting some of the perennials back around the house because the heat this summer really got to them.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a super week!!

ReplyDeleteOh Martina I am so with your husband regarding these beautiful Crepe Myrtles. I fell in love with them earlier this summer as we went south for 2 weeks vacation. Yours are stunning! Love the beautiful pool landscaping as well. Enjoy the rest of your summer and thank you so much for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteI adore Crepe Myrtles.. your yard is so beautiful, Martina.
ReplyDeleteours are all in bloom too. so far I have 11 and I hope to add 3 more this fall. cant get enough of their beauty and how fast they grow too.
Martina, your yard is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers and your photos are beautiful.

Love your crepe myrtles & your gardens.
ReplyDeleteThey look beautiful! It's nice to see such pretty pops of color, especially now when everything else is fading.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, Martina! I remember first seeing crepe myrtles on my first trip to Florida and thinking they were the greatest tree I'd ever seen. I would have loved to have tried growing them in New York, but always thought of them as a southern climate planting. I'd have been happy with bushes, though.
ReplyDeleteHi Martina! What pretty crepe myrtles! I love yours as little shrubs. I have one that is pretty tall but it's blooming it's little head off too!
ReplyDeleteI love that shot of your pool!
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)
They are all so pretty Martina! I love the Miami pink one. The ones by the pool look lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat job pushing the boundaries of the zones. It looks like they are all very happy in zone 6. :)
Have a great day.
Pam
Hi Martina, I so love Crepe Myrtles, we had them in Ca. but they are just now showing up here in Colorado-but not many. Of course, we do have crab-apple trees and Lilac bushes, which I also love. Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden with us!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
Martina, those are beautiful. Do they really not get any taller there? We cut all the growth down the trunk off and whatever comes up at the bottom of the trunk, too to give them the tree look.
ReplyDeleteMartina- I just love your Crepe Myrtles . Luckily the beetles didn't get to mine this year, do you ever have that problem?
ReplyDeleteLove these! We ar ein Northern California, and I'm not a gardener, so I've never seen these close up (that I know of!). I'm drawn to anything pink at home or in the garden, but the garden is the only place my husband will let me put pink!

Martina,
ReplyDeleteWhat a GORGEOUS yard you have, absolutely stunning! Love the lush trees in the distance! Thanks for sharing! XO ~Liz
P.S. Thank you for the sweet comment! =)
I love them. We are seeing white, lilac, pink and fushia around our area. So colorful. Glad your made it.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved crepe myrtles. I didn't grow up with them, but I remember seeing them in Charleston, SC as an adult. When we moved into our house, I made sure to have some planted when we were designing our front yard with the builder. Now we have 3 large ones that really define our entire front yard. They are so southern to me. I had no idea that you could grow yours as shrubs. That is really neat! They look great framing the pool area next to the fence. The only drawback for us with having them as trees, is they are a PAIN to prune. My husband hates it.
ReplyDeleteLove the Pink Velor Martina! Really pretty!
ReplyDeleteThose flowers looks so pretty and I could just jump right in that pool:)
ReplyDeleteLove them! Your gardens are so pretty! I love the red color of the ones around the pool. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThose are all so beautiful Martina! I think the white ones are my favorite. Wish we could grow them here in the NW! :-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Absolutely beautiful! I just cut some off the bush in the front yard and put them inside the house!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration today!

These look so beautiful and healthy. Love the color.

Your crepe myrtle are beautiful. We are lucky here in NC that we can grow these as trees. I love them even in the winter, without leaves and blossoms. Their trunks are pretty too.
ReplyDeleteMartina, I love crepe myrtles but do not have one in my yard. I see you have several and they looks stunning around your pool. The color of the pool and the blooms.... oh goodness how beautiful! I don't believe I have ever seen a white crepe myrtle!
ReplyDeleteWonderful
Hi Martina,
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely flowering shrubs, so colourful too! They seem to be thriving at your place! So lush and green...very nice.
All the Best,
Christine
Martina the crepe myrtles look so good! I had several when I lived in NM but I don't think they will live this far up in Colorado.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you could grow crepe myrtles up north. I'm zone 5 so I might be pushing my luck to try. Yours are gorgeous though. Good job!

ReplyDeleteI love these shrub/trees. They were giant trees at my Texas home. More of a shrub here. I hate it when I see them cut back and looking like spindly arthritic things.(Love your picket fence too!)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Martina, your crepe myrtles are wonderful in the bush form, and I imagine more easy to maintain than the tree form we see in the South. Do yours die back in winter? You're great gardeners to get them to grow in zone 6.
ReplyDeleteLove all the colors your have, too.
Hugs,
Babs
Martina, your Crepe Myrtles look great throughout your yard. I especially like them betweet the fence and pool. the color is delicious! I have the Natchez in my yard and I think it's time to plant some pretty pink ones. I love the Choctaw. Great end of summer post……..

I love your Crepe Myrtles, particularly the dark red one. I keep fantasizing growing one in my back yard, but I see them only rarely in the nursery. I want a tree form for my back yard, but absolutely love your shrubs. Hoping that you have a great week.

Martina,
ReplyDeleteI'm in zone 6 too. Your crepe myrtles are gorgeous! I would have never thought to try and grow them.
Your husband has a green thumb :)

Thanks for popping in Martina and hope you've had a little cooler weather today!

Your gardens look amazing this Summer Martina! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMartina,
ReplyDeleteYour yard is beautiful!

So pretty! I love crepe myrtles, partly because they thrive in our Oklahoma heat. Was just in Dallas yesterday driving through some of the historic, stately neighborhoods there and they were filled with beautiful, huge crepe myrtles. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe myrtles really been put in a show this year. If You Have not been - go through trial and Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. I think I might Have the same type of environment as its beautiful cemetery in Florence.
