bye bye accent wall!

I've had an accent wall in our family room on the fireplace wall since we moved in 9 yrs ago. First it was a light sage green, then it went to a darker green, and then about 2 yrs ago I painted it a gold color. Let's just say I'm over it! I wanted everything to blend, so I painted it Barely Beige by Ben. Moore just like the rest of the room and kitchen, since this is one big open space.
 Here's the most recent before...
and the After... I like it so much better!
Well you know how it goes, one thing always leads to another. Out came the chalk paint and this frame got a makeover too or should I say a do over!
Before...
After... I used AS Coco along with the clear and dark wax.
Before I applied the waxes I used a damp paper towel to wipe off some of the coco so the other paint would come thru.
Added a few vintage books on this side.
Playing around in PicMonkey. For those of you who loved and miss Picnik this is almost the same thing. Toby wanted his picture taken too!
I even gave the mantel a fresh coat of bright white in semi gloss to brighten it up. By painting this one wall the room feels so much lighter and brighter, I love it!
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week!

The New Pillows

Well in my last post I said I was on the hunt for new pillows and it didn't take me too long to find the perfect ones! The day I found the tulip pillow in Home Goods I found these too. The two large striped ones are Ralph Lauren. The floral came as a two pack and have feather and down inserts that I love.

They go perfect together, it was meant to be!

Hope your all having a super week and thanks so much for stopping by!

When in doubt add a slip to it!

I know I've mentioned in the past that I wasn't happy with my living room couch anymore. We bought this couch and the two french chairs from Thomasville when we moved in this house. This couch was pretty expensive and it's made very well so I really can't justify getting rid of it just yet. The next best alternative was having a custom slipcover made for it, so that's what I did. I've never taken so many measurements in my life!! Thankfully I had the hubby here to help me:) I ordered it from Custom Slipcovers Now.com. and had it within two weeks.
I love the lighter feel and more casual look it gave the room. The fabric is cotton but has the look of linen and the color is mushroom. After all the measurements were put in, it generates the price. Lets just say I clicked process order before the hubby saw ;) and thought I was nuts!!  I also opted to have separate seat cushions made.
Before...
To dark and heavy looking.
 Now the After...
so much lighter and brighter. Now I'm on the hunt for a few new pillows.
    A closeup of the fabric.

We sit in here a lot and I am very impressed on how neat the couch stays. I haven't had to fix the slipcover once since it's been on.
                         Have a great week!!

~The Tulip~

The tulip is my favorite flower and when I saw this pillow the other day in Home Goods I knew it had to come home with me! A few others came home too, but that's another post! I think I'll be joining Kim in the pillow 12 step program LOL!

I'm off to the soccer field to watch my son play, then we'll be heading over to the baseball field, it's a busy day!
                      Have a super weekend!!

Real or Faux

When it comes to greenery I use both, but it seems like lately I'm buying more live plants. My inside plants always do well the only plant I have a hard time keeping alive is a fern. I bought one last summer and it only lasted a few months. I just bought another one and hopefully it does better.
This fern in the metal plant stand is a faux but it looks so real.
This next one is my favorite. It is a weeping pussy willow plant and can be used inside or planted outside.
Another faux fern in my living room that I bought in Hobby Lobby, I think this one is going to be replaced with a real one.
This little plant they use in fairy gardens(I have no clue what that is)! I liked it and thought it would look good in my blue and white bowl. The man in the nursery said it gets like a mound and will hang over the edges as it grows.
I've had this one for over a year and I'm constantly trimming it.
A little more faux in the concrete urn.
 and... in the ceramic pot.
Faux in the copper bucket, but this just got replaced with a real fern. Let's hope it lasts!
This is a succulant of some sort. I love the way it looks in the pottery.
This last one needs a haircut badly, but I like the way it cascades down the wall. I've had this one for years.
So, what do you prefer live or faux? I'd love to hear!

An Old Box meets Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

I enjoyed my little blog break and the fun family time we had while the kids were home, but reality sets in and now I have to get the kiddos back on schedule from having the last two weeks off! My two oldest were going to bed way to late and quickly got used to sleeping in. My youngest was even sleeping till around 9:30am!
Now onto my latest little project....
I've had this little box for ages, but it's been living in my storage room for sometime now. The other day I was getting some things together to bring to the consignment shop and this little box was in the pile to go. The light bulb in my head went off and I knew with a little paint I could make this little box look old and worn and so purdy!

I am so glad I decided to keep her.
I used AS Old Ochre on the whole box then added Coco to the outer edge on top and the little bit of trim on the bottom. Waxed, sanded, done!
Love all the layers coming thru and the crackly looking finish it has now.
Ha... my youngest found a new home for her Littlest Pet Shops! I love the power of paint! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week!

~Bathroom Vignette~

A new vignette in the master bath.  The candlestick I had, the plant came from Walmart in that cute little container and the little white dish with the bird I found on a recent trip to Home Goods.
Wishing you all a very Happy Easter! I'll be taking a little break next week. My kids are still on spring break so we will be spending some family time together. I'll be checking in with you guys just no posting. Now I need to get my butt off this computer and go get ready for all our company tomorrow! Have a super weekend and a wonderful Easter!

Inspired by Charles Faudree

Charles Faudree is one of my favorite designers. I love the way he displays plates on walls and I have been contemplating weather or not to add some around the mirror in my dining room. Here's some of my inspiration pics....

With the help of Nancy from the blog Nancy's Daily Dish this is what we came up with.

I have two more saucers that I am going to hang that I already had, I just have to make a trip to Hobby Lobby to get the disks to hang them. I just couldn't wait to show you guy's how they look!
I LOVE IT!
 Here's a close up.
Nancy is so sweet and didn't hesitate to help me when I asked her.  Her Etsy shop is amazing, she has such a large collection of transferware I wouldn't know where to begin. So I sent her a picture of my wall and she made a few different displays for me.
I love the look it gave this room! Thank you Nancy for all your help. Anyone who's looking to buy transferware Nancy's the lady to see!
